From Ugly Duckling to a SwanAt my heaviest I weighed 36 stoneish… I say ish as I couldn’t find a set of scales to weigh myself on. The hospital finally calculated that I was between 36 and 36 and a half stone when I started my weight loss programme. If you had asked me at that time I would have said I was happy.
This is a picture of me at my biggest. I was wearing 6XL t shirts from USA as I could not find clothes to wear in the UK very easily. Looking back on it, I wasn’t that happy. I was suffering from depression. I had to go and see my GP because I wasn’t very well and after some blood tests and further tests in hospital. I was informed that my liver was struggling and I was very likely to die within a few years. At 29 (yes I am 29 in this picture) it’s not what you want to hear.
My GP put me on a VLCD diet. (very Low Calorie) I followed it seriously and lost 4 stone very rapidly, however during this time I became ill and started passing out for no reason. The hospital told me it wasn’t the diet and I was fine. After passing out in the bathroom having fallen and smashed my head on the toilet and nearly breaking a rib, I decided enough was enough. I stopped the diet and immediately felt better.
A friend of mine suggested The Diet Plate. I started following it and never looked back. The Diet Plate was so simple and effective, it didn’t say don’t eat chips or don’t eat pasta, instead it suggested if I eat these foods to eat this amount, and the tools of the plate and bowl showed me exactly what amount to eat. The system is so simple, I cooked whatever I wanted and served it up on the plate, following the guide lines and the weight just kept coming off. I didn’t have to weigh out food, or measure it before I cooked it, which is tedious at best and downright annoying and boring at worst.
The set cost me about £36 and it was the best money I had ever spent. Over the course of a year I dropped down to 19 stone and went through 3 wardrobes, my waist went from nearly 60” to 40”. I started training again in martial arts and becoming much more active. I now enjoy running, swimming and martial arts and feel seriously happy now! |
